In our line of work, safety is something we can never afford to overlook, and National Safe Work Month is the perfect reminder of why.

From installing pallet racking to delivering industrial refurbishments and working across active construction sites, our industry comes with real risks. When things aren’t done properly, the consequences can be serious.

That’s why safety is a priority at Dexion Victoria and National Make Good Solutions (NMGS). It’s about protecting our people, our clients and everyone who uses the spaces we help create.

Throughout October, our teams came together for National Safe Work Month, an initiative led by Safe Work Australia. Across four weekly themes, we involved people from different departments, shared perspectives and reflected on what working safely means to all of us.

Starting With What Matters Most

We began Week 1, For Life, with a simple question: Who or what do you stay safe for?

Our team members shared their answers, bringing a personal perspective to a topic we often associate with procedures, protective equipment and risk assessments.

These measures are essential, particularly in our industry. But behind every one of them is a person with family, friends and a life outside of work.

It was a meaningful way to begin the month, reminding us that no matter our role, we all have a reason to make it home safely.

Safety Goes Beyond the Worksite

For Week 2, For Health, we turned our attention to workplace health and wellbeing.

While physical hazards are an important consideration in our industry, looking after our people means thinking beyond the more obvious risks.

With a focus on our office environment and our collaboration with Amicus, we explored how thoughtful workplace design and everyday working conditions can contribute to healthier, more supportive spaces.

It reinforced an important point: safety isn’t limited to construction sites or warehouse floors. Every working environment deserves the same care and consideration.

Building Safer Workplaces for the Future

Week 3, For the Future, encouraged us to look ahead.

Across Dexion Victoria and NMGS, we’re involved in creating and improving spaces where people work every day. That gives us an important responsibility to consider how our decisions can influence safety, both during project delivery and long after the work is complete.

From warehouse protection systems and designated pedestrian walkways to smarter planning and emerging technologies, we explored how practical solutions can help reduce risks and create safer working environments.

Our biggest takeaway was a familiar but important one: prevention starts well before something goes wrong.

It’s in the planning, the conversations and the decisions made along the way.

Different Industries, One Shared Responsibility

Week 4: Watch Dylan’s Rapid-Fire Series

For our final week, For All, we wanted to take the conversation beyond our own workplaces.

Safety isn’t exclusive to warehousing, construction or any one industry. Whether you’re working in an office, on a building site or behind the wheel of a race car, the environments and risks may be different, but the importance of working safely remains the same.

To bring this message to life, we invited Dexion Victoria-sponsored racing driver Dylan O’Keeffe to join us for a safety-themed rapid-fire series.

Motorsport and warehousing might seem worlds apart, but both operate in environments where preparation, awareness and making the right decisions are essential.

Through a few quick questions and plenty of laughs, we brought together two very different industries to highlight a message that applies to everyone.

No matter what you do or where you work, safety is for all.

Taking National Safe Work Month Lessons Beyond October

Looking back, the most meaningful part of National Safe Work Month was seeing our people come together.

Across different departments and responsibilities, each week gave us an opportunity to reflect, learn and reinforce why safety matters.

A genuine thank you to Safe Work Australia for championing this important initiative, and to everyone across Dexion Victoria and NMGS who participated and helped bring each theme to life. Special thanks also to Dylan for joining the conversation.

October may be ending, but the lessons and conversations from National Safe Work Month are worth carrying into every project and every working day.

Because at the end of the day, what matters most is that everyone gets home safely.
