For many, breast cancer isn’t simply something we hear about during October. It’s an experience that touches families, friendships and communities, often much closer to home than we realise.
That’s why Breast Cancer Awareness Month was an opportunity for the teams at Dexion Victoria and National Make Good Solutions (NMGS) to come together, show our support and contribute to a cause that matters beyond our workplace.
We wanted to do more than raise awareness. We wanted to give our people an opportunity to connect with the reason behind it.
Bringing Our People Together for a Purpose
On 28 October, our teams came together for a day dedicated to supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
We encouraged everyone to wear pink and organised a team bake sale, with homemade treats generously contributed by colleagues.
It was a simple way for everyone to get involved. Some spent time preparing something to share, others helped organise the activities, and many showed their support by donating or purchasing something from the bake sale.
What mattered wasn’t how people chose to participate, but that everyone had an opportunity to be part of something meaningful.
And while fundraising was an important part of the day, we also wanted to create a moment that felt more personal.
The People Behind the Cause

Beyond the fundraising, we also wanted to acknowledge something that can easily get lost in conversations about breast cancer: the people and personal experiences behind the statistics.
As part of our activities, we invited team members to write down the name of a woman who holds significance in their lives, whether someone they wanted to celebrate, acknowledge or remember.
It was an opportunity to recognise the women who have shaped our lives and the relationships that make causes like this feel so personal.
As the names came together, they became a quiet but meaningful part of the day. Each represented someone important to a member of our team, with their own story, experiences and connections.
Not every name was accompanied by an explanation, nor did it need to be. The intention was simply to create space for reflection alongside the day’s fundraising activities.
For us, it reinforced an important message: breast cancer awareness is about more than raising funds or sharing information. It’s about recognising the people, families and communities at the heart of the cause, and understanding why continued awareness and support matter.
Beyond Our Fundraising Goal, Together

When we began planning our Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraiser, we set ourselves a goal. We hoped to bring our people together, encourage participation and raise meaningful support for BCNA.
What followed exceeded our expectations.
Thanks to the generosity of our team members, families, friends and wider community, we not only reached our fundraising target but surpassed it.
Every contribution, big or small, helped us get there. From the colleagues who baked and organised to those who donated and encouraged others to get involved, it was a genuine team effort.
And we were proud to take that generosity one step further.
As promised, Dexion Victoria and NMGS matched the donations raised, doubling the contribution made in support of BCNA.
BCNA provides information, resources and support to Australians affected by breast cancer, helping people feel informed, connected and supported through their experiences.
Knowing that our collective efforts can contribute to this important work makes exceeding our goal even more meaningful.
What started as a shared fundraising initiative became a reminder of just how much we can achieve when people come together for a cause they care about.
Carrying the Meaning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Beyond October
Looking back, what we’ll remember most isn’t just that we exceeded our fundraising goal, but the care and generosity that made it possible.
The time people took to prepare something for the bake sale. The willingness to contribute. The names written down in appreciation or remembrance. And the shared understanding that we were supporting something bigger than ourselves.
To everyone who participated, donated or helped bring the day together, thank you.
We’re incredibly proud of what our teams and wider community achieved together. Surpassing our goal was a wonderful outcome, but seeing everyone come together with such generosity and genuine care was just as meaningful.
Because while Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes around once a year, the people who give it meaning are part of our lives every day.
